Preparing Spring Strut Mount For Installation

WARNING:

Incorrect triggering behaviour of pyrotechnical actuator due to lack of ground connection. 

  • Danger of injury 
  • Risk of damage to the vehicle 

    The sealing surfaces of the hinge and spring strut mount must be paint-free with bare metal exposed.

Information 

The clinch points in the firewall area -yellow points-  will not be replaced by blind rivets. These points will only be bonded. This means that no bores are required here.

Drilling out clinch points

Information 

  1. Fit in spring strut mount and secure it to the body.
  2. Drill holes for rivets through both sheetmetal plates. > Diameter 6.6 mm

  3. Drill holes for blind rivets in the firewall area. > Diameter 6.6 mm

  4. Remove spring strut mount.
  5. Prepare marked areas for bonding and riveting.

  6. Prepare marked area -grun-  for applying a full weld using inert gas for the ground connection.

  7. Sand off cathodic-dip layer -magenta-  in the sealing surface area for the front lid hinge.
