Tilt Steering Column: Removal

  1. Tilt steering column
  2. Universal joint

Tightening torque: Nm (kgfm, ft-lb) 

T1: 24 (2.4, 17.4) 

T2: 25 (2.5, 18.1) 

Set the vehicle on a lift.

Disconnect the ground cable from battery.

Remove the airbag module.

WARNING: Always refer to AIRBAG SYSTEM before performing airbag module service.

Remove the steering wheel.

Remove the universal joint.

Remove the trim panel under instrument panel.

Remove the steering column lower cover.

Remove all connectors from steering column.

Remove the two bolts under instrument panel securing steering column.

Pull out the steering shaft assembly from hole on toe board.

IMPORTANT:
  • Be sure to remove the universal joint before removing the steering shaft assembly installing bolts when removing the steering shaft assembly or when lowering it for servicing of other parts.
  • Do not loosen the tilt lever when the steering column is not secured to the vehicle.
