Installation Procedure

  1. Install the steering column to the vehicle and connect the column to the intermediate shaft.

    NOTE: Refer to Fastener Notice .
  2. Install the steering column mounting nuts.

    Tighten:  Tighten the nuts to 27 N.m (20 lb ft).

  3. Install the intermediate shaft bolt to the steering column.

    Tighten:  Tighten the bolt to 50 N.m (37 lb ft).

    IMPORTANT: Perform the following procedure before installing the bolt.
    1. Remove all traces of the original adhesive patch.
    2. Clean the threads of the bolt with denatured alcohol or equivalent and allow to dry.
    3. Apply threadlocker GM P/N 12345382 (Canadian P/N 10953489) or LOCTITE™ 222.
  4. Connect the body wiring harness connector to the steering column lower bracket.

  5. Connect the steering column electrical connector to the vehicle wiring harness.

    Tighten:  Tighten the screw to 6 N.m (53 lb ft).

  6. Install the knee bolster. Refer to Knee Bolster Replacement .
  7. Install the steering wheel. Refer to Steering Wheel Replacement .
  8. Unlock the steering column by removing J 42640  from the lower trim cover access hole.
  9. Enable the SIR system. Refer to SIR Disabling and Enabling .
