WARNING: Gasoline or gasoline vapors are highly flammable. A fire could occur if an ignition source is present. Never drain or store gasoline or diesel fuel in an open container, due to the possibility of fire or explosion. Have a dry chemical (Class B) fire extinguisher nearby. WARNING: Use care while handling the fuel sender to prevent damage and incorrect fuel level readings. Preliminary Procedure  Disconnect the negative battery terminal. Refer to BATTERY NEGATIVE CABLE REPLACEMENT (GASOLINE) . Remove the fuel tank. Refer to FUEL TANK REPLACEMENT (AWD)  or FUEL TANK REPLACEMENT (FWD) . Release the electrical connector. Drain the fuel system. Refer to FUEL TANK DRAINING . NOTE: The illustrations in this section show the fuel sender on the primary fuel pump only. The fuel sender on the secondary fuel pump is similar.
1	Fuel Pump Feed and Return Pipe Procedure  Release the fuel pump feed and return pipes and move to one side.
2	Fuel Pump Retaining Ring Procedure  Release the fuel pump retaining ring. Lift out the retaining ring to access the fuel pump.
