Diagnostic Procedures
- Install scan tool. Start engine. Using scan tool, open EGR valve in different increments. Pintle position voltage should increase as valve is opened. If pintle voltage increases, problem is intermittent. See DIAGNOSTIC AIDS. If pintle voltage does not increase, go to next step.
- Turn engine off. Disconnect EGR valve harness connector. Turn ignition on, with engine off. Using a test light connected to ground, probe EGR fuse circuit (Pink wire) in underhood fuse/relay block. If test light illuminates, go to step 4). If test light does not illuminate, go to next step.
- If DTC P0443 is also set, check EGR fuse. If only DTC P1406 is present, repair open in circuit between EGR fuse and PCM.
- Start engine. Command EGR valve to full open. Using a test light connected to battery voltage, probe EGR harness connector terminal "A". If test light illuminates, check for terminal tightness at EGR valve or faulty EGR valve. If test light does not illuminate, check for open in circuit, terminal tightness or faulty PCM.
