Removal & Installation

  1. Before proceeding, follow air bag service precautions. See SERVICE PRECAUTIONS . Set front wheels in straight-ahead position. Turn ignition switch to LOCK position. Remove air bag module and steering wheel. See AIR BAG (INFLATOR) MODULE  and STEERING WHEEL.
  2. Remove upper column shroud, lock cylinder bezel and lower column shroud. See Figure. Remove Data Link Connector (DLC) screws. Disconnect hood release cable. Pull left and right side panels outward at bottom to disconnect velcro, then pull outward at top to disengage 2 snaps. Remove SIR coil assembly. See SIR COIL ASSEMBLY .
  3. Disconnect lever control switch connectors. Remove lever control switch (if necessary). See LEVER CONTROL SWITCH ASSEMBLY . Disconnect ignition switch connector. Remove ignition switch (if necessary). See IGNITION SWITCH . Remove upper pinch bolt from intermediate shaft. Remove column mounting bolts. Remove steering column. To install, reverse removal procedure.
