"W" Body (Grand Prix - With Column Shift)

  1. Ensure gearshift lever is in "P" position. Turn ignition switch to ON position. Disconnect BTSI solenoid connector. Using a test light, jumper between BTSI solenoid connector terminal "A" and ground. See Figure. DO NOT apply brake pedal. If test light does not illuminate, go to next step. If test light illuminates, go to step  4.
  2. Disconnect brakelight switch 4-pin connector C2. Connect test light between brakelight switch 4-pin connector C2 terminal "B" and ground. See Figure. If test light does not illuminate, go to next step. If test light illuminates, repair open circuit between brakelight switch 4-pin connector C2 terminal "B" and BTSI solenoid connector terminal "A", then go to step  7. See WIRING DIAGRAMS .
  3. Check for an open circuit between brakelight switch 4-pin connector C2 terminal "A" and BTSI fuse (10-amp). See WIRING DIAGRAMS . Repair as necessary, then go to step  7. If circuit is okay, replace brakelight switch, then go to step  7.
  4. Connect test light between BTSI solenoid connector terminal "B" and battery power. See Figure. If test light does not illuminate, go to next step. If test light illuminates, replace BTSI solenoid, then go to step  7.
  5. Disconnect Park/Neutral Position (PNP) switch 7-pin connector. Connect test light between PNP connector terminal "D" and battery power. See Figure. If test light illuminates, go to next step. If test light does not illuminate, repair poor connection or open circuit between PNP switch and ground (G129), located on transaxle stud, then go to step  7. See WIRING DIAGRAMS .
  6. Check for poor connection or open circuit between PNP switch connector terminal "A" and BTSI solenoid connector terminal "B". See Figure and Figure . See WIRING DIAGRAMS . Repair as necessary, then go to next step. If circuit and connections are okay, replace PNP switch, then go to next step.
  7. Ensure all components disconnected or removed during testing are reconnected and installed on vehicle. Ensure BTSI system operates correctly. See SHIFT INTERLOCK SOLENOID  under DESCRIPTION & OPERATION. If system does not operate correctly, repeat step  1.
