System Check

NOTE: Cruise control functional switches utilize pigtail connectors which connect to cruise control wiring harness at steering column roll connector. Ensure connections on both harness side and switch side of roll connector are clean and tight.
  1. Press and release cruise control ON/OFF switch. If cruise indicator light does not illuminate, go to next step. If cruise indicator light illuminates, go to step  3 .
  2. If cruise control system operates normally except for indicator light, check for open circuit or poor connection between cruise control ON/OFF switch and steering column roll connector. Repair as necessary. If cruise control system does not operate, see TEST A: CRUISE CONTROL INOPERATIVE  under SYSTEM TESTS.
  3. Road test vehicle at speeds greater than 25 MPH. Press and release SET/COAST switch. Remove foot from accelerator pedal. If vehicle maintains set speed, go to next step. If vehicle will not maintain set speed, go to TEST B: CRUISE CONTROL DOES NOT SET  under SYSTEM TESTS.
  4. Press and hold RESUME/ACCEL switch until vehicle speed increases 4-5 MPH, then release switch. If vehicle accelerates and maintains new set speed, go to next step. If vehicle does not operate as described, go to TEST C: CRUISE CONTROL DOES NOT RESUME/ACCELERATE  under SYSTEM TESTS.
  5. Press and hold SET/COAST switch until vehicle speed decreases 6-8 MPH, then release switch. If vehicle decelerates and maintains new set speed, go to next step. If vehicle does not operate as described, replace cruise control module. See CRUISE CONTROL MODULE  under REMOVAL & INSTALLATION.
  6. Press brake pedal. If cruise control disengages, go to next step. If cruise control does not disengage, replace cruise control module. See CRUISE CONTROL MODULE  under REMOVAL & INSTALLATION.
  7. Press RESUME/ACCEL switch. If vehicle accelerates and maintains previously set speed, go to next step. If vehicle does not operate as described, replace cruise control module. See CRUISE CONTROL MODULE  under REMOVAL & INSTALLATION.
  8. Quickly press and release (tap) RESUME/ACCEL switch. If vehicle speed increases in one MPH increments, go to next step. If vehicle does not operate as described, replace cruise control module. See CRUISE CONTROL MODULE  under REMOVAL & INSTALLATION.
  9. Quickly press and release (tap) SET/COAST switch. If vehicle speed decreases in one MPH increments, go to next step. If vehicle does not operate as described, replace cruise control module. See CRUISE CONTROL MODULE  under REMOVAL & INSTALLATION.
  10. Press cruise control ON/OFF switch. If cruise control disengages, go to next step. If cruise control does not disengage, go to TEST D: CRUISE CONTROL DOES NOT DISENGAGE WITH ON/OFF SWITCH  under SYSTEM TESTS.
  11. If vehicle is equipped with a manual transmission, go to next step. If vehicle is equipped with an automatic transmission, system is functioning normally. System check is complete.
  12. Press RESUME/ACCEL switch until vehicle accelerates and maintains previously set speed. Press clutch pedal. If cruise control disengages, system is functioning normally. System check is complete. If cruise control does not disengage, check cruise clutch (release) switch adjustment. See CRUISE CLUTCH (RELEASE) SWITCH  under ADJUSTMENTS. Adjust cruise clutch (release) switch if necessary. If adjustment is okay, replace cruise clutch (release) switch. Go to CRUISE CLUTCH (RELEASE) SWITCH  under REMOVAL & INSTALLATION.
