Circuit Description
PassLock(R) system prevents vehicle theft by disabling engine unless PassLock(R) cylinder is correctly engaged by mechanical key. The PassLock(R) system utilizes 4 components for theft detection; the lock cylinder, ignition switch, BCM and PCM.
When engine is started, PCM looks for a password from the BCM through the class 2 serial data circuit. If password is not recognized or not present, PCM will disable engine. If an incorrect or no password is received, engine will start and stall immediately. Security indicator light will flash on dash for 10 minutes. If more than 3 invalid passwords are received, engine will be disabled for at least 10 minutes and security light will flash for 10 minutes.
If PCM losses BCM communication within the same ignition cycle, vehicle will continue to run on the following ignition cycles. This is called the fail enable mode.
