"W" Body (Lumina)
- Ensure gearshift lever is in "P" position. Turn ignition switch to ON position. Disconnect BTSI solenoid connector. Apply brake pedal. Using test light, backprobe between BTSI solenoid connector terminal "A" and ground. See Figure. If test light illuminates, go to next step. If test light does not illuminate, check BTSI solenoid linkage for mechanical damage. Repair as necessary, then go to step 3. If BTSI solenoid linkage is okay, replace BTSI solenoid, then go to step 3.
- Leave test light connected between BTSI solenoid connector terminal "A" and ground. Disconnect brakelight switch 4-pin connector C2. If test light stays illuminated, repair short to battery power in circuit between brakelight switch 4-pin connector C2 terminal "B" and BTSI solenoid connector terminal "A", then go to next step. See Figure. See WIRING DIAGRAMS . If test light does not illuminate, check brakelight switch adjustment. Adjust brakelight switch as necessary. If adjustment is okay, replace brakelight switch, then go to next step.
- Ensure all components disconnected or removed during testing are reconnected and installed on vehicle. Ensure BTSI system operates correctly. See SHIFT INTERLOCK SOLENOID under DESCRIPTION & OPERATION. If system does not operate correctly, repeat step 1.
