Forward/Reverse Servo Piston: Installation
CAUTION:
Prior to using Servo Piston Seal Installer (SA9143T), inspect the tool for any nicks or burrs that could damage the forward/reverse servo piston seal.
- Install forward/reverse servo piston seal if necessary. Place servo piston on Seal Installer Backup Base (SA9137T-2). See Fig 1 . Install Expander Cone (SA9137T-1) to servo piston. Lube seal with Saturn Transaxle Fluid before installation and position on expander cone. Use seal pusher Input Shaft Seal Installer to install seal. Place servo piston on seal sizer Holding Base (SA9137T-4). See Fig 2 . Size seal by placing Sizing Ring (SA9137T-3) over piston with large internal diameter down, until it bottoms out on work table.
- Lube the inside diameter of the forward/reverse fork and slide the forward/reverse fork onto the forward/reverse dog clutch sleeve. See Figure .
- Insert the forward/reverse servo piston into the bore and line up fork and servo shaft as servo is pushed in. Before pushing the servo all the way in, align bolt hole in servo with hole in fork. Chamfered hole should face toward the case opening. Clean bolt threads and apply Loctite 242(R) Threadlocker on bolt threads.
- Install fork-to-servo piston bolt and tighten to specification. Install servo spring. Install servo cover O-ring to cover and install cover. Tighten 2 bolts to specification. See TORQUE SPECIFICATIONS . Install valve body. See VALVE BODY .
- Install the 1st clutch, 1st drive gear, and 1st driven gear. See 1ST CLUTCH, 1ST DRIVE GEAR & 1ST DRIVEN GEAR . Install end cover. See END COVER .
NOTE:
Be sure not to install the forward/reverse fork upside down. Refer to illustration for reference. See Figure

NOTE:
Prior to installing the servo piston, thoroughly lube servo piston shaft and case bore where the piston will be installed with Saturn Transaxle Fluid.
NOTE:
Clean and lubricate fasteners with Saturn Transaxle Fluid. Wipe off excess fluid and install.
