Valve Body: Removal
NOTE:
ABS equipped vehicles require master cylinder to be moved off booster studs and ABS mid-rail bracket bolt removed to allow system to be lifted slightly for removal of valve body cover. Use care not to bend or kink brake lines. After removing valve body cover, place master cylinder back on booster studs.
- Remove air cleaner and duct assembly. See AIR CLEANER & DUCT ASSEMBLY . Disconnect negative battery cable from battery. Disconnect positive battery cable from battery. Remove hold-down retaining nut and screws, and lift off battery hold-down retainer. See Fig 1 .
- Lift battery out of vehicle, and place in a safe location. Disconnect PCM connector J2 (Black 28-way) by moving locking device toward fender. Remove PCM attachment bolts. Remove and flip PCM on its side, out of the way. See Fig 2 . Remove battery tray bolts and tray. One bolt is located in fender well.
- Back out transaxle connector bolt and disconnect transaxle connector. See Fig 3 . On ABS equipped vehicles, remove master cylinder-to-booster nuts and ABS mid-rail bracket bolt. On all vehicles, remove valve body cover.
- Remove 11 valve body-to-case bolts (identified on illustration by heavy circles). See Fig 4 . Pull valve body up and disengage from manual valve link. Remove valve body.
CAUTION:
Do not remove the bolt indicated in illustration. See Fig 4
. This bolt holds upper and lower valve body together as valve body is removed. If bolt is removed in the vehicle, parts will fall into the transaxle.
