Diagnostic Procedures

NOTE: If DTC P0508 or P0509 is also set, diagnose affected DTC(s) first. See DTC P0508: IDLE CONTROL SYSTEM CIRCUIT LOW  or DTC P0509: IDLE CONTROL SYSTEM CIRCUIT HIGH  .
  1. Start and warm engine to normal operating temperature. Ensure ECT is greater than 140°F (60°C). Check engine speed. If engine speed is consistently 100 RPM or more less than desired idle speed, go to next step. If engine speed is not consistently 100 RPM or more less than desired idle speed, problem is intermittent. See DIAGNOSTIC AIDS  .
  2. Check IAC valve for carbon deposits, engine misfire, EGR stuck open, low generator output, accessory drive component loading engine or O2S1 signal high. Check A/C command not recognized by PCM. Scan tool should on when A/C button is turned on with engine running. Repair as necessary.
