SUBJECT

A/C Inoperative (Replace A/C Compressor Clutch).

MODELS AFFECTED

2000 Saturn S-Series vehicles built before and including YZ178263 and equipped with air conditioning (RPO C60).

CONDITION

Some customers may comment that the air conditioning is inoperative or is not cooling adequately.

CAUSE

The A/C compressor clutch coil may have an open circuit due to a loose connection at the compressor clutch coil thermal link fuse. Over time, this loose connection may cause the fuse to overheat and open.

CORRECTION

Check for an open across compressor clutch coil circuit.
- If the circuit is open, proceed to step 2.
- If the circuit is not open, refer to the diagnostic information in the S-Series HVAC Service Manual for assistance in diagnosing the concern.
Replace the compressor clutch. Do not replace the compressor assembly. (For the compressor clutch removal and installation procedures, refer to "Compressor Clutch - Ogura(R) Clutch" in the S-Series HVAC Service Manual.)
