Description & Operation
WARNING:
Vehicles are equipped with air bag supplemental restraint system. Before attempting ANY repairs involving steering column, instrument panel or related components, see SERVICE PRECAUTIONS and DISABLING & ACTIVATING AIR BAG SYSTEM in appropriate AIR BAG RESTRAINT SYSTEMS article.
Multifunction switch assembly is mounted on steering column. See Fig 1 . Multifunction switch incorporates headlight switch, turn signal switch, hazard switch and front and rear wiper/washer switches. Multifunction switch also provides a current path for cruise control switch, horn switch and air bag. Lever on left side of column controls headlight, flash-to-pass and turn signal operations. Lever on right side of column controls front and rear wiper/washer operations. Button switch on top of multifunction switch is for hazard warning lights.
Ignition switch is attached to lock cylinder. Supplemental Inflatable Restraint (SIR) system uses a SIR coil assembly mounted to multifunction switch assembly under steering wheel.
