Diagnostic Procedures
NOTE:
If DTC P1640 is also set, diagnose that DTC first. See DTC 1640: EVAP VENT SOLENOID CONTROL CIRCUIT LOW VOLTAGE or DTC 1640: EVAP VENT SOLENOID CONTROL CIRCUIT HIGH VOLTAGE

- Turn ignition on, engine off. Remove fuel cap. Using scan tool, monitor FUEL TANK PRESS. SENSOR. If voltage is 2.35-2.85 volts, go to step 3. If voltage is not 2.35-2.85 volts, go to next step.
- If voltage is less than 0.10 volt, see DTC P0452: EVAP FUEL TANK PRESSURE SENSOR CIRCUIT - LOW VOLTAGE . If voltage is 0.10-2.35 volts or 2.85-4.90 volts, replace fuel tank pressure sensor. If voltage is more than 4.90 volts, see DTC P0453: EVAP FUEL TANK PRESSURE SENSOR CIRCUIT - HIGH VOLTAGE .
- Install fuel cap. Start and hold engine speed steady at 3000 RPM. Using scan tool, perform EVAP SYSTEM PERF special function. Wait for fuel tank pressure to reach 0.7 volt or less. Let engine return to idle. Command EVAP SYSTEM PERF off. If fuel tank pressure returns to 2.35-2.85 volts, problem is intermittent. See DIAGNOSTIC AIDS . If fuel tank pressure does not return to 2.35-2.85 volts, go to next step.
- Turn ignition on, engine off. Remove right rear inner fender. Using scan tool, command EVAP vent solenoid on and off while listening for solenoid clicking at right rear inner fender area. If solenoid does not click, replace EVAP vent solenoid. If solenoid clicks, EVAP vent system is blocked. Check EVAP solenoid hose for a kinked or pinched condition and a blocked EVAP canister of kinked/pinched EVAP lines between EVAP vent solenoid and EVAP canister.
