DTC P0336: Crankshaft Position Sensor Circuit: Description

CKP sensor defines engine position by generating an electrical pulse each time it passes a notch of the crankshaft reluctor wheel. Crankshaft has 7 total machined notches, 6 of which are spaced 60° apart. Remaining tooth is 10° before cylinder No. 4 TDC notch. Extra notch is used by PCM to determine position of TDC of cylinder No. 4 necessary to synchronize engine position. EI module converts the AC signal into a digital signal which is sent to the PCM on the 7X reference circuit. PCM uses 7X reference signal for fuel delivery, spark timing and misfire diagnosis. DTC sets when number of pulses or time between pulses is not valid.
