Diagnostic Procedures

  1. Ensure battery connections are clean and tight. Check battery hydrometer eye color. If hydrometer eye color is Yellow or clear, replace battery. If hydrometer eye color is not Yellow or clear, go to next step.
  2. If battery hydrometer eye color is Green, go to next step. If battery hydrometer eye color is not Green, charge battery.
  3. Check for DTCs. Are there any generator F-terminal or L-terminal DTCs stored? If yes, diagnose affected DTCs. See DIAGNOSTIC TESTS  . If no, go to next step.
  4. Perform battery pass load test. If battery passes the load test, go to next step. If battery does not pass the load test, replace battery.
  5. Perform charging system test. If vehicle passes the charging test, check for parasitic load and driving habits. If vehicle does not pass the charging test, go to next step.
  6. Replace generator. See GENERATOR  in REMOVAL & INSTALLATION. After replacing generator, verify charge system output.
