Shifter Control Housing: Removal

  1. Remove air cleaner and duct assembly. See AIR CLEANER & DUCT ASSEMBLY  . Disconnect negative battery cable from battery. Disconnect positive battery cable from battery.
  2. Remove hold-down retaining nut and screws, and lift off battery hold-down retainer. See Fig 1 . Lift the battery out of vehicle, and place in a safe location.
  3. NOTE: The PCM J1 (Black 80-way) harness connector does not need to be disconnected.
  4. Disconnect Powertrain Control Module (PCM) J2 (Black 28-way) harness connector by moving locking device outward toward fender.
  5. Remove PCM attachment bolts and move PCM out of the way. Remove battery tray bolts and tray. One bolt is located in fender well (1). See Fig 2 .
  6. Disconnect back-up light switch electrical connector. Place transaxle in Neutral. Remove shift control housing retaining bolts. Remove housing and gasket. See Fig 3 .
