Door Adjustment - Front

  1. Remove the door lock striker. Refer to Door Striker Replacement - Front Door .
  2. For up, down, forward, or rearward adjustment, loosen the hinge to hinge pillar bolts.
  3. For inboard or outboard adjustment, perform the following steps:
    1. Remove the front door outer panel. Refer to Outer Door Panel Replacement Front - Bolt On  .
    2. Remove the front door sound insulator. Refer to Sound Insulator Replacement - Front Door  .
    3. Loosen the door to hinge nuts and adjust the door as necessary.

  5. If proper door adjustment cannot be obtained, perform the following steps:
    1. Remove the front door. Refer to Door Replacement - Front  .
    2. Enlarge the outer 2 stud openings closest to the door panel with a drill bit to 13 mm (1/2 in).
    3. Apply primer to the bare metal areas where holes were drilled.
    4. Install the front door. Refer to Door Replacement - Front  .
  6. Move the door within the door opening to achieve the best alignment and operation.
  7. NOTE: Refer to FASTENER NOTICE in Cautions and Notices.
  8. Tighten all of the hinge fasteners that were loosened.

    Tighten:  Tighten the hinge fasteners to 30 N.m (22 lb ft).

  9. Install the front door sound insulator. Refer to Sound Insulator Replacement - Front Door .
  10. Install the front door outer panel. Refer to Outer Door Panel Replacement Front - Bolt On .
  11. Install the striker to the approximate proper position.
  12. Adjust the door striker. Refer to Door Striker Adjustment - Front Door .
  13. Inspect the door weatherstrips for proper fit.
