Installation Procedure

WARNING: This page is about a different car, the 2005 Saturn Ion Red Line, 2005 Saturn Ion 3, 2005 Saturn Ion 2, and 2005 Saturn Ion 1. However, it is still accessible from the selected car via links, so may be relevant.
  1. Install the proportioning valve assembly to the vehicle.

  2. Install the proportioning valve assembly bracket mounting nut and mounting bolt.

    Tighten: 

    • Tighten the nut to 25 N.m (18 lb ft).
    • Tighten the bolt to 25 N.m (18 lb ft).

  3. Secure the forward lamp wiring harness to the proportioning valve assembly bracket.

  4. Remove the plugs from the proportioning valve assembly ports.
  5. Remove the caps or plugs from the master cylinder brake pipe ends.
  6. Connect the master cylinder brake pipes (2) to the proportioning valve assembly. Refer to Hydraulic Brake Pipe Routing - Master Cylinder to Proportioning Valve Assembly .
  7. Tighten the brake pipe fittings at the proportioning valve assembly.

    Tighten:  Tighten the fittings to 18 N.m (13 lb ft).

  8. Remove the caps or plugs from the caliper and wheel cylinder brake pipe ends.
  9. Connect the caliper and wheel cylinder brake pipes (1) to the proportioning valve assembly. Refer to Hydraulic Brake Pipe Routing - Master Cylinder to Proportioning Valve Assembly .
  10. Tighten the brake pipe fittings at the proportioning valve assembly.

    Tighten:  Tighten the fittings to 18 N.m (13 lb ft).

  11. Bleed the hydraulic brake system. Refer to Hydraulic Brake System Bleeding (Manual)  or Hydraulic Brake System Bleeding (Pressure) .
  12. Remove the shop towel and discard into an approved container.
