Differential Case Disassemble
Tools Required
- 87-92-210 Support, Differential Bearing. See Special Tools and Equipment .
- SA9120T Differential Bearing Installer. See Special Tools and Equipment .
- SA9172G Ball Detent Handle. See Special Tools and Equipment .
- SA9211T-2 5th Gear Puller. See Special Tools and Equipment .
- SA9211T2-4 Thread On Adapter. See Special Tools and Equipment .
- Mount the differential in a vise with soft jaws.
- Remove the differential bearings using the SA9211T-2 with the SA9211T2-4 . See Special Tools and Equipment . Use the 87-92-210 as a base for the puller as shown. See Special Tools and Equipment .
- Disassemble the differential gear assembly by removing 12 ring gear to case bolts (306). Separate the differential case (320) from the ring gear (307).
An option for limited slip differential or open differential exists for some models. See inset. Both differential assemblies are serviced only as a complete assembly. The bolts, ring gear and tapered roller bearings are serviceable components.
NOTE:
The thread on adapter must be used on the 5th gear puller when removing the differential bearings. If the adapter is not used, the puller can be damaged.
