Inflatable Restraint Sensing and Diagnostic Module Replacement

Callout Component Name
CAUTION: Do not strike or jolt the inflatable restraint sensing and diagnostic module (SDM). Before applying power to the SDM, make sure that it is securely fastened with the arrow facing toward the front of the vehicle. Failure to observe the correct installation procedure could cause SIR deployment, personal injury, or unnecessary SIR system repairs.

Fastener Tightening Specifications:  Refer to Fastener Tightening Specifications .

Preliminary Procedures

  1. Disable the supplemental inflatable restraint (SIR) system. Refer to SIR Disabling and Enabling Zone 9 .
  2. Remove the passenger front seat. Refer to Seat Replacement - Front Bucket in Seats.
  3. Remove the passenger front carpet retainer. Roll back the carpet.
  4. Remove the right side cowl trim panel. Refer to Trim Panel Replacement - Cowl Side in Interior Trim.
  5. Remove the right side insulator panel. Refer to Knee Bolster, Insulator, Molding Replacement - Instrument Panel in Instrument Panel, Gages, and Console.
1 Connector, Inflatable Restraint Sensing and Diagnostic Module Electrical
Tip:  Remove the connector position assurance (CPA).
2 Bolt, Inflatable Restraint Sensing and Diagnostic Module (Qty: 3)

Tighten:  10 N.m (89 lb in)

3 Module, Inflatable Restraint Sensing and Diagnostic
Tip: 
  • The AIR BAG indicator may remain ON after the sensing and diagnostic module (SDM) had been replaced. DTC B1001 may set requiring the SDM part number to be set in multiple modules. If the indicator remains ON after enabling the SIR system, perform the diagnostic system check and follow the steps thoroughly to ensure that the SDM is set properly.
  • Reprogram the body control module (BCM). Refer to Body Control Module Programming and Setup in Programming and Setup.
