Removal Procedure

  1. Raise and support the vehicle. Refer to Lifting and Jacking the Vehicle in General Information.
  2. Remove the right side engine splash shield. Refer to Splash Shield Replacement - Engine in Body Front End.
  3. Place the drain pan under the power steering pump and the power steering gear.

  5. Disconnect the return hose from the cooler pipe.
  6. CAUTION: Failure to disconnect the intermediate shaft from the rack and pinion stub shaft can result in damage to the steering gear and/or intermediate shaft. This damage can cause loss of steering control which could result in personal injury.
  7. Disconnect the intermediate shaft from the steering gear. Refer to Intermediate Steering Shaft Replacement in Steering Wheel and Column.
  8. Use a utility stand in order to support the frame rear.
  9. Remove the rear frame bolts.
  10. Use the utility stand to lower the rear of the frame for clearance.

  12. Remove the power steering gear heat shield and hose clip.
  13. Disconnect the cooler pipe from the steering gear.

  15. Remove the cooler pipe retainer bolt/screw.
  16. Remove the cooler pipe retainer.
  17. Remove the cooler pipe from the frame retainers and vehicle.
