Control Valve Body Assembly Installation

  1. If necessary, clean and install the transmission magnet chip collector (137) in the torque converter housing (150).
  2. Install the spacer plate locating pins (243).
  3. Install the control valve body spacer plate (244).

  5. Install the automatic transmission fluid pump drive gear (234) into the transmission torque converter housing.
  6. Install the automatic transmission fluid pump driven gear (232) into the transmission torque converter housing with its grooved and chamfered side facing down as shown.
  7. Install the automatic transmission fluid pump driven gear pin (233) into the transmission torque converter housing.

  9. Install the main control valve body assembly (250) to the torque converter housing assembly using the following flanged bolt/screws:
    • 2 M6 x 1.0 x 40 mm (221)
    • 2 M6 x 1.0 x 30 mm (222)
    • 3 M8 x 1.0 x 32 mm (223)
    • 3 M6 x 1.0 x 20 mm (224)

    NOTE: Refer to Fastener Notice in Cautions and Notices.
  11. Tighten the bolts in the sequence shown.

    Tighten: 

    • Tighten all M6 bolts to 12 N.m (106 lb. in.)
    • Tighten all M8 bolts to 18 N.m (13 lb. ft.)

    IMPORTANT: Properly align the fluid pump driven gear pin in order to prevent a seized fluid pump.
  13. Inspect the automatic transmission fluid pump drive gear pin (234) and the automatic transmission fluid pump driven gear pin (233) for smooth rotation.
  14. If the gears do not rotate smoothly perform the following:
    • Loosen all of the control valve body bolts
    • Align the fluid pump driven gear pin again
    • Torque the bolts to specifications again
    • Verify the gears rotate smoothly

  16. Install the torque converter check valve 35.1 mm return spring (226) into the control valve body (250).
  17. Install the torque converter check valve (225) into the control valve body (250).
  18. Install the transmission fluid cooler check valve (228) into the control valve body (250).
  19. Install the oil cooler check ball 14.5 mm return spring (227) into the control valve body (250).
