Removal Procedure

WARNING: This page is about a different car, the 2004 Saturn Ion Red Line, 2004 Saturn Ion 3, 2004 Saturn Ion 2, and 2004 Saturn Ion 1. However, it is still accessible from the selected car via links, so may be relevant.
    CAUTION: Do not strike or jolt the inflatable restraint sensing and diagnostic module (SDM). Before applying power to the SDM, make sure that it is securely fastened with the arrow facing toward the front of the vehicle. Failure to observe the correct installation procedure could cause SIR deployment, personal injury, or unnecessary SIR system repairs.
  1. Disable the SIR system. Refer to SIR Disabling and Enabling Zone 8 (Coupe)  or SIR Disabling and Enabling Zone 8 (Sedan) .
  2. Remove the floor console. Refer to Console Replacement - Front Floor in Instrument Panel, Gages, and Console.
  3. Remove the connector position assurance (CPA) from the SDM harness connector.
  4. Disconnect the SDM harness connector from the SDM.
  5. Remove the SDM mounting nuts.
  6. Remove the SDM from the floor pan.
