Radiator Outlet Pipe Replacement

WARNING: With a pressurized cooling system, the coolant temperature in the radiator can be considerably higher than the boiling point of the solution at atmospheric pressure. Removal of the surge tank cap, while the cooling system is hot and under high pressure, causes the solution to boil instantaneously with explosive force. This will cause the solution to spew out over the engine, the fenders, and the person removing the cap. Serious bodily injury may result.

Preliminary Procedures

  1. Drain the cooling system. Refer to Cooling System Draining and Filling (Static Fill-LY7, LZE, LZ4)  or Cooling System Draining and Filling (GE 47716) .
  2. Remove the electronic control module (ECM). Refer to Engine Control Module Replacement (LE5) or Engine Control Module Replacement (LAT) .
1 Radiator Outlet Hose
Procedure: 
Reposition the 2 hose clamps per hose, using the GE-47622  or J 38185  . See Special Tools .

Special Tools

2 Generator Control Module Coolant Pump Hose
3 Generator Control Module Coolant Outlet Hose
4 Radiator Outlet Pipe Nut
CAUTION: Refer to Fastener Caution .

Tighten:  20 N.m (15 lb ft)

5 Radiator Outlet Pipe
Procedure: 
Unclip and reposition wiring harness as required.
