Inspection Procedure
- CHECK INDICATOR LAMP (See
DIAGNOSIS SYSTEM )
- Check that all of the following conditions for not illuminating the brake warning light are satisfied.
- The ABS warning light is off.
- The amount of the brake fluid is between the Min. line and Max. line of the brake master cylinder reservoir.
- The parking brake pedal is fully released.
- NEXT
- Check that all of the following conditions for not illuminating the brake warning light are satisfied.
- CHECK DTC FOR ABS
- Check if the DTCs are recorded.
- NO: Go to step 3
- YES : REPAIR CIRCUIT INDICATED BY OUTPUT CODE
- INSPECT BRAKE WARNING LIGHT
WHEN USING HAND-HELD TESTER:
- Connect the hand-held tester to the DLC3.
- Start the engine.
- Select the item "BRAKE WARN LIGHT" in the ACTIVE TEST and operate the BRAKE warning light on the hand-held tester.
- Check that "ON" and "OFF" of the BRAKE warning light can be shown on the combination meter with the hand-held tester.SPECIFIED CONDITION VEHICLE CONDITION

Turn the BRAKE warning light ON or OFF in accordance with the hand-held tester.
WHEN NOT USING HAND-HELD TESTER:
- Turn the ignition switch OFF and disconnect the connector from the skid control ECU.
- Use a service wire, connect terminal BRL (33) to GND1 (2) of skid control ECU harness side connector.
- In the same way, use the service wire to connect terminal BRL (33) to GND2 (24) of skid control ECU harness side connector.
- Turn the ignition switch to the ON position.
- Check that the brake warning light goes off.

Standard:
Turn the light ON or OFF in accordance with the connecting condition of the terminal GND and BRL.
- NG: Go to step 4
- OK: REPLACE BRAKE ACTUATOR ASSY (See REPLACEMENT )
- INSPECT PARKING BRAKE SWITCH ASSY
- Remove the parking brake switch.
- Measure the resistance according to the value (s) in the table below.
Standard:
SPECIFIED CONDITIONTester Connection Switch Condition Specified Condition P4-1 - Ground Part Released 1 Ω Or Less Pushed In 10 kΩ Or Higher
- NG: REPLACE PARKING BRAKE SWITCH ASSY
- OK: Go to next step.
- CHECK HARNESS OR CONNECTOR (SKID CONTROL ECU - PARKING BRAKE SWITCH)

- Disconnect the skid control ECU connector and the parking brake switch connector.
- Measure the resistance according to the value (s) in the table below.SPECIFIED CONDITION
Tester Connection Specified Condition PKB (S1-18) - PKB (P4-1) 1 Ω Or Less - Measure the resistance according to the value (s) in the table below.SPECIFIED CONDITION
Tester Connection Specified Condition WA (S1-18) - Body Ground 10 kΩ Or Higher
- NG: REPAIR OR REPLACE HARNESS OR CONNECTOR
- OK: Go to next step.
- INSPECT BRAKE FLUID LEVEL WARNING SWITCH
- Remove the reservoir tank cap and strainer.
- Disconnect the brake fluid level warning switch connector.
- Measure the resistance according to the value (s) in the table below.
Standard:
SPECIFIED CONDITIONTester Connection Switch Condition Specified Condition (B2 1) (B2 2) Float UP 10 kΩ Or Higher Float DOWN 1 Ω Or Less
- NG: REPLACE BRAKE FLUID LEVEL WARNING SWITCH
- OK: Go to next step.
- CHECK HARNESS OR CONNECTOR (BRAKE FLUID LEVEL WARNING SWITCH - COMBINATION METER)

- Disconnect the combination meter connector and the brake fluid level warning switch connector.
- Measure the resistance according to the value (s) in the table below.
Standard:
SPECIFIED CONDITIONTester Connection Specified Condition (C11-15) - (B2-1) 1 Ω or less - Measure the resistance according to the value (s) in the table below.
Standard:
SPECIFIED CONDITIONTester Connection Specified Condition (C14-15) - Body Ground 10 kW Or Higher
- NG: REPAIR OR REPLACE HARNESS OR CONNECTOR
- OK: REPLACE BRAKE ACTUATOR ASSY (See REPLACEMENT )
