On-Vehicle Inspection
- INSPECT SPEEDOMETER
- Check the operation.
- Using a speedometer tester, inspect the speedometer for acceptable indication error and check the operation of the odometer.
Reference: km/h (Canada)
Reference: MPH (U.S.)
NOTE: Tire wear and over or under tire pressure will affect the indication error. - Check the deflection width of the speed meter indicator.
Reference: Below 0.5 km/h (0.3 MPH)
- Using a speedometer tester, inspect the speedometer for acceptable indication error and check the operation of the odometer.
- Check the operation.
- INSPECT OUTPUT SIGNAL OF VEHICLE SPEED
- Check the input signal waveform.
- Remove the combination meter assy.
- Connect the oscilloscope to the terminals C10-10 and body ground.
- Start the engine.
- Check the signal waveform according to the condition (s) in the table below.
HINT:
As the vehicle speed increases, the cycle of the signal wave form narrows.
- Check the input signal waveform.
- INSPECT TACHOMETER
- Check operation
- Connect the tune-up test tachometer, and start the engine.NOTE:
- Reversing the connection of the tachometer will damage the transistors and the insides of the diodes.
- When removing or installing the tachometer, be careful not to drop or subject it to heavy shocks.
- Compare the result of the test with the standard indication.
DC 13.5 V, 25°C (77°F)
- Connect the tune-up test tachometer, and start the engine.
- Check operation
- INSPECT FUEL RECEIVER GAUGE
- Disconnect the connector from the sender gauge.
- Turn the ignition switch to ON, then check the position of the receiver gauge needle.
Needle position: EMPTY
- Connect the terminal 2 and 3 on the wire harness side connector of fuel sender gauge.
- Turn the ignition switch to ON, then check the position of the receiver gauge needle.
Needle position: FULL
- INSPECT FUEL LEVEL WARNING
- Disconnect the connector from the sender gauge.
- Turn the ignition switch to ON, check the fuel level needle indicates EMPTY and fuel level warning light comes on.
- INSPECT ENGINE COOLANT TEMPERATURE RECEIVER GAUGE WARNING LIGHT
- Disconnect the connector from the fuel sender gauge.
- Turn the ignition switch to ON, check the position of the water temperature receiver gauge needle.
Needle position: COOL
- Ground the terminal 2 on the wire harness side, then check the position of the water temperature receiver gauge needle.
Needle position: HOT
- INSPECT LOW OIL PRESSURE WARNING LIGHT
- Disconnect the connector from the low oil pressure switch.
- Turn the ignition switch to ON.
- Ground the terminal of the wire harness side connector, then check the low oil pressure warning light.
Low oil pressure warning light: Come on
- INSPECT BRAKE WARNING LIGHT
- Inspect the parking brake warning light.
- Disconnect the connector from the parking brake switch.
- Turn the ignition switch to ON.
- Ground the terminal of the wire harness side connector, then check the parking brake warning light.
- Inspect the brake fluid level warning light.
- Disconnect the connector from the brake fluid level warning switch.
- Turn the ignition switch to ON.
- Connect a terminal to other terminal of wire harness side connector, then check the brake fluid level warning switch.
- Inspect the parking brake warning light.
- INSPECT BRAKE FLUID LEVEL WARNING SWITCH
- Remove the reservoir tank cap and strainer.
- Disconnect the connector.
- Measure the resistance between the terminals.
Float up (switch off): 10 kΩ or higher
- Use a syphon, etc., to take fluid out of the reservoir tank.
- Measure the resistance between the terminals.
Float down (switch on): Below 1 Ω
- Pour the fluid back in the reservoir tank.
- Reconnect the connector.
- INSPECT WASHER LEVEL WARNING SWITCH
- Disconnect the connector from the washer level warning switch.
- Turn the ignition switch ON.
- Ground terminal of the wire harness side connector, then check the washer level warning light.
- MAINTENANCE LIQUID RESETTING PROCEDURE
Indicator Condition:
- Set the display window to ODO
- Turn the ignition switch off.
- Pressing the reset switch, turn the ignition switch on (Keep pressing for at least 5 seconds).
- The reset procedure is completed.
HINT:
- If the ignition switch is turned off during the reset procedure.
LCD: off
IND: off
- If the ignition switch is turned off during the reset procedure.
LCD: return to ODO
IND: Keep the previous state of reset
- If the ignition switch is turned off during the reset procedure.
