Instrument Panel Sub-ASSY Upper: Replacement
HINT:

- Installation is in the reverse order of removal.

HINT:
All bolts, screws and nuts relevant to installing and removing the instrument panel are shown along with their alphabet code in the table shown in Fig 1.
- DISCONNECT BATTERY NEGATIVE TERMINAL (See PRECAUTION )
- REMOVE METER HOOD SUB-ASSY
- Tilt the steering column assy down as far as possible.
- Using a moulding remover, disengage the 9 claws.
HINT:
Tape the moulding remover tip before use to avoid damage.
- While holding the instrument panel sub-assy upper as shown in Fig 3 , remove the meter hood sub-assy.
HINT:
Attach protective tape to the column cover upper to prevent it from being damaged during removal.
- REMOVE COMBINATION METER ASSY
- Remove the screw < E >, and disengage the 2 claws.
- Pull the combination meter assy toward the rear of the vehicle, disconnect the connector, and remove the combination meter assy.
- REMOVE SHIFT LEVER KNOB SUB-ASSY (MANUAL TRANSAXLE)
- Turn the shift lever knob sub-assy counterclockwise and remove the shift lever knob sub-assy.
- REMOVE CONSOLE PANEL SUB-ASSY UPR FR
HINT:
Tape the moulding remover tip before use to avoid damage.
- Using a moulding remover, disengage the 2 claws < A >.
- Disengage the 2 claws < B >
- Disengage the 2 claws < C >.
- Disconnect the connector.
- Remove the clamp, and console panel sub-assy UPR FR.
- REMOVE HEATER CONTROL & ACCESSORY ASSY (See OVERHAUL )
- REMOVE RADIO BRACKET NO. 1 & NO. 2
- Remove the 2 nuts and 2 screws, then radio bracket No.1 & No.2.
- REMOVE GLOVE COMPARTMENT DOOR ASSY
- Separate the glove compartment door stopper from the glove compartment door assy.
- Slightly press in on the upper sides of the glove compartment door assy to release the 2 stoppers.
- Disengage the 4 claws and remove the glove compartment door assy.
- REMOVE GLOVE COMPARTMENT DOOR STOPPER SUB-ASSY
- Disengage the clip, and remove the glove compartment door stopper sub-assy.
- REMOVE FRONT PILLAR GARNISH LH (W/O CURTAIN SHIELD AIRBAG) (See REPLACEMENT )
- REMOVE FRONT PILLAR GARNISH LH (w/ CURTAIN SHIELD AIRBAG) (See REPLACEMENT )
- REMOVE FRONT PILLAR GARNISH RH (W/O CURTAIN SHIELD AIRBAG)
HINT:
Use the same procedures for the RH side and LH side.
- REMOVE FRONT PILLAR GARNISH RH (w/ CURTAIN SHIELD AIRBAG)

Use the same procedures for the RH side and LH side.
- DISCONNECT PASSENGER AIRBAG CONNECTOR (See REPLACEMENT )
- REMOVE INSTRUMENT PANEL SUB-ASSY UPPER W/FRONT PASSENGER AIRBAG ASSY
- Remove the 5 screws < B > or < C >, < D > and 2 bolts < A >.
- Disengage the 13 claws.
- Pull the instrument panel sub-assy upper w/ front passenger airbag assy rearward to remove it.
- REMOVE HEATER TO REGISTER DUCT NO.1
- Remove the 2 screws < D >, and heater to register duct No.1.
- REMOVE HEATER TO REGISTER DUCT NO.4
- Remove the 2 screws < D >, and heater to register duct No.4.
- REMOVE DEFROSTER NOZZLE ASSY
- Remove the 3 screws < D >, and the defroster nozzle assy.
- REMOVE INSTRUMENT PANEL REGISTER ASSY NO.1
- Disengage the 4 claws, then remove the instrument panel register assy No.1.
- REMOVE INSTRUMENT PANEL REGISTER ASSY NO.2
HINT:
Use the same procedures for the instrument panel register assy No.2 and instrument panel register assy No.1.
- REMOVE FRONT PASSENGER AIRBAG ASSY (See REPLACEMENT )
- REMOVE INSTRUMENT PANEL CUSHION NO.2
- REMOVE FRONT PANEL SIDE SILENCER NO.2
- REMOVE INSTRUMENT PANEL SUB-ASSY UPPER
- INSTALL INSTRUMENT PANEL SUB-ASSY UPPER W/FRONT PASSENGER AIRBAG ASSY
- Disengage the 13 claws.
- Install the instrument panel sub-assy upper w/ front passenger airbag assy with the 5 screws < B > or < C >, < D > and 2 bolts < A >.
- Torque: Bolt: 18 N.m (184 kgf.cm, 13 ft.lbf)
- CONNECT BATTERY NEGATIVE TERMINAL
- INSPECT SRS WARNING LIGHT (See DIAGNOSIS SYSTEM )
