Inspection Procedure

  1. CHOOSE DIAGNOSIS METHOD 
    1. Choose the diagnosis method.
      DTC CHART

      Method Proceed to
      Using intelligent tester A
      Not using intelligent tester B

    B: Go to step   3 

    A: GO TO NEXT STEP 

  2. READ VALUE ON INTELLIGENT TESTER 
    1. Connect the intelligent tester to the DLC3.
    2. Turn the ignition switch to the ON position and turn the intelligent tester main switch on.
    3. Select the item below in the "DATA LIST", and read the display on the intelligent tester.

      ECM (Cruise Control) 

      DATA LIST

      Item Measurement Item / Display (Range) Normal Condition Diagnostic Note
      SHIFT D POS PNP SW signal (D position) ON or OFF ON: Shift position D
      OFF: Any shift position except D
      -

      OK: When the shift lever is operated, the display changes as shown above. 

    OK: PROCEED TO NEXT CIRCUIT INSPECTION SHOWN IN PROBLEM SYMPTOMS TABLE 

    NG: GO TO NEXT STEP 

  3. CHECK WIRE HARNESS (ECM - BATTERY) 
    1. Disconnect the E5 connector from the ECM.
    2. Turn the ignition switch to the ON position.
    3. Measure the voltage according to the value(s) in the table below.

      Standard voltage 

      WIRE HARNESS STANDARD VOLTAGE SPECIFICATIONS

      Tester Connection Condition Specified Condition
      E5-21 (D) - Body ground Shift position D 10 to 14 V
      E5-21 (D) - Body ground Any shift position except D Below 1 V

    OK: PROCEED TO NEXT CIRCUIT INSPECTION SHOWN IN PROBLEM SYMPTOMS TABLE

    NG: GO TO NEXT STEP 

  4. INSPECT PARK / NEUTRAL POSITION SWITCH ASSEMBLY 
    1. Disconnect the P1 park / neutral position switch connector.
    2. Measure the resistance according to the value(s) in the table below.

      Standard resistance 

      PARK / NEUTRAL POSITION SWITCH ASSEMBLY STANDARD RESISTANCE SPECIFICATIONS

      Tester Connection Condition Specified Condition
      2 (RB) - 7 (DL) Shift position D Below 1 Ω
      2 (RB) - 7 (DL) Any shift position except D 10 kΩ or higher

    NG: REPLACE PARK / NEUTRAL POSITION SWITCH ASSEMBLY

    OK: GO TO NEXT STEP 

  5. CHECK WIRE HARNESS (PARK / NEUTRAL POSITION SWITCH - ECM) 
    1. Measure the resistance according to the value(s) in the table below.

      Standard resistance 

      WIRE HARNESS STANDARD RESISTANCE SPECIFICATIONS

      Tester Connection Condition Specified Condition
      P1-7(DL)-E5-21(D) Always Below 1 Ω
      E5-21 (D) - Body ground Always 10 kΩ or higher

    NG: REPAIR OR REPLACE HARNESS AND CONNECTOR

    OK: REPAIR OR REPLACE HARNESS AND CONNECTOR (PARK / NEUTRAL POSITION SWITCH BATTERY)
