Manual Transaxle Assembly: Removal

  1. DISCONNECT CABLE FROM NEGATIVE BATTERY TERMINAL 
    CAUTION: Wait at least 90 seconds after disconnecting the cable from the negative (-) battery terminal to prevent airbag and seat belt pretensioner activation.
  2. PLACE FRONT WHEELS FACING STRAIGHT AHEAD 
  3. REMOVE COLUMN HOLE COVER SILENCER SHEET  (See REMOVAL )
  4. DISCONNECT NO. 2 STEERING INTERMEDIATE SHAFT ASSEMBLY  (See REMOVAL )
  5. REMOVE NO. 1 STEERING COLUMN HOLE COVER SUB-ASSEMBLY  (See REMOVAL )
  6. REMOVE FRONT WHEEL 
  7. REMOVE ENGINE UNDER COVER LH 
  8. REMOVE ENGINE UNDER COVER RH 
  9. DRAIN TRANSAXLE OIL 
    1. Remove the filler plug and gasket.
    2. Remove the drain plug and gasket, and drain the oil.
    3. Install a new gasket and the drain plug.

    Torque: 49 N*m (500 kgf*cm, 36 ft.*lbf) 

  10. REMOVE CENTER EXHAUST PIPE ASSEMBLY  (See REMOVAL )
  11. REMOVE HOOD SUB-ASSEMBLY 
  12. REMOVE NO. 1 ENGINE COVER SUB-ASSEMBLY 
  13. REMOVE AIR CLEANER ASSEMBLY 
  14. REMOVE BATTERY CLAMP SUB-ASSEMBLY 
  15. REMOVE BATTERY 
  16. REMOVE BATTERY TRAY 
  17. REMOVE BATTERY CARRIER 
    1. Remove the 4 bolts and battery carrier.
  18. REMOVE STARTER ASSEMBLY  (See REMOVAL )
  19. DISCONNECT WIRE HARNESS 
    1. Remove the 3 bolts, and disconnect the 3 wire harnesses.

  20. DISCONNECT BACK-UP LIGHT SWITCH

  21. DISCONNECT CLUTCH RELEASE CYLINDER ASSEMBLY 
    1. Remove the 3 bolts and disconnect the release cylinder.

  22. DISCONNECT TRANSMISSION CONTROL CABLE ASSEMBLY 
    1. Remove the 2 clips and 2 washers, and disconnect the 2 cables from the transaxle.
    2. Remove the 2 clips, and disconnect the 2 cables from the bracket.

  23. REMOVE FRONT DRIVE SHAFT ASSEMBLY LH 
    1. Remove the drive shaft (see REMOVAL ).
  24. REMOVE FRONT DRIVE SHAFT ASSEMBLY RH 
    1. Remove the drive shaft (see REMOVAL ).
  25. DISCONNECT PRESSURE FEED TUBE ASSEMBLY  (See REMOVAL )
  26. SUSPEND ENGINE ASSEMBLY 
    1. Install the No. 1 and No. 2 engine hangers in the correct direction.
      ENGINE HANGERS REFERENCE

      Part Name Parts No.
      No. 1 engine hanger 12281-28010
      No. 2 engine hanger 12282-28010
      Bolt 91512-61020

      Torque: 38 N*m (387 kgf*cm, 28 ft.*lbf) 

    2. Attach the engine chain hoist to the engine hanger.
      NOTE: Do not attempt to hang the engine by hooking the chain to any other part.
  27. REMOVE FRONT SUSPENSION CROSSMEMBER SUB-ASSEMBLY  (See REMOVAL )
  28. SUPPORT MANUAL TRANSAXLE ASSEMBLY 
    1. Support the transaxle with a transmission jack.
  29. REMOVE ENGINE MOUNTING INSULATOR LH 
    1. Remove the 5 bolts, nut and engine mounting insulator.

  30. REMOVE ENGINE MOUNTING BRACKET LH 
    1. Remove the 3 bolts and engine mounting bracket.

  31. REMOVE MANUAL TRANSAXLE ASSEMBLY 
    1. Remove the 10 bolts.
    2. Separate and remove the transaxle from the engine.

  32. REMOVE MANUAL TRANSMISSION CASE PROTECTOR 
    1. Remove the 2 bolts and case protector.

  33. REMOVE FRONT ENGINE MOUNTING BRACKET 
    1. Remove the bolt, nut and front engine mounting insulator from the front engine mounting bracket.
    2. Remove the 2 bolts and front engine mounting bracket from the transaxle.

  34. REMOVE REAR ENGINE MOUNTING BRACKET 
    1. Remove the bolt and rear engine mounting insulator from the rear engine mounting bracket.

    3. Remove the 3 bolts and rear engine mounting bracket from the transaxle.
