Power Steering Pump: Disassembly

  1. Place pump in a soft-jawed vise. Remove reservoir and pipe from pump. Remove adapter and "O" ring. See Figure .
  2. Tilt pump assembly. Remove adapter, "O" ring, pressure valve and spring. DO NOT drop pressure valve. Remove rear body-to-front body bolts. Separate rear body from front body. On Legacy and Loyale, remove seal washer.
  3. On XT and XT6, remove cam case and "O" ring. Remove snap ring, and detach spacer. Remove pins. Carefully remove rotor and cam ring as an assembly. Remove "O" ring from cam ring and vanes from rotor. Remove shaft and seal from front body.
  4. On Legacy and Loyale, remove side plate, spring and "O" rings. Remove shaft from front body. Press bearing from shaft. Using a screwdriver, remove seal from front body. Discard seal. DO NOT damage front body during seal removal.
