IN-TRANSIT SPARK PLUG FOULING PROTECTION

TECHNICAL SERVICE BULLETIN

SERVICE INFORMATION

All 1992 Legacy and SVX vehicles will incorporate a feature designed to reduce the chance of spark plug fouling while these vehicles are being transported prior to sale. It will be necessary to disconnect this feature during PDI.

SVX

This procedure can be found in 1-4 (01P0) of the Service Manual. Upon receipt of the SVX, you should notice the check engine light flashing a steady on/off sequence with the key on. This indicates there is no trouble with the fuel system and that it is okay to proceed with removing the transit connector which is a normal part of the PDI procedure. The transit connector is a black 10 pin connector with a jumper wire which mates to a black 10 pin check connector located behind a trim panel at the lower area forward of the driver's door opening. The transit connector should be removed and discarded. Confirm that the check engine light no longer flashes.

If a trouble code is observed through the check engine light before the transit connector is removed, a fuel system problem is indicated and further troubleshooting should be performed according to Section 2-7 of the Service Manual.

LEGACY

1992 MY Legacy vehicles will arrive at dealers for PDI with the read memory connectors joined together. Spark plug fouling protection logic has been incorporated through these connectors and related wiring. The read memory connectors B54 and B55 are black 1 pin connectors located under the dash and will be temporarily secured to the main harness with a wrap of tape. As with the SVX, check for a steady on/off check engine light sequence before separating these connectors to confirm a normally operating fuel system. A trouble code output via the check engine light indicates a problem with the system and appropriate diagnostic steps should be performed according to the Service Manual. Confirm that the flashing stops when the connectors are separated.

Spark plug fouling protection is designed for in-transit use only prior to PDI. Do not attempt to repair a vehicle by utilizing these functions. Use proper and appropriate diagnostic procedures found in the Service Manual to identify and correct system malfunctions.
