Basic Diagnostics Procedure
NOTE:
Perform this procedure before continuing with other system tests.
- Open all windows and turn ignition switch off. Remove ignition key, lock driver's door and exit vehicle. If security indictor light illuminates continuously, go to next step. If security light flashes, check security control module I/O signals. See SECURITY CONTROL MODULE I/O SIGNALS
. If security light does not illuminate, check the following.
- Indicator Light - See SECURITY INDICATOR LIGHT CIRCUIT
- Door Lock/Unlock Switch - See DOOR LOCK/UNLOCK SWITCH SIGNAL
- Switch Input Signal - See DOOR SWITCH SIGNAL
- Wiring Harness - See WIRING DIAGRAMS
- Security Control Module - SECURITY CONTROL MODULE I/O SIGNALS
- Wait for 30 seconds. If security light starts flashing at long intervals (.2 seconds on and 2.4 seconds off), go to next step. If security light does not start flashing at long intervals (.2 seconds on and 2.4 seconds off), check security control module I/O signals. See SECURITY CONTROL MODULE I/O SIGNALS .
- Unlock driver's door using inside lock knob and open door. Horn should sound and headlights should flash (.2 second on and .6 seconds off). If either of these conditions are not satisfied, go to next step. If neither of these conditions are not satisfied, go to step 6). If both these condition are satisfied, try to start engine and go to step 7).
- If only horn sounds, go to next step. If only headlights flash, check horn operation by pushing horn pad on steering wheel. If horn does not sound when pushing horn pad, repair horn system. See appropriate WIRING DIAGRAM in STEERING COLUMN SWITCHES article. If horn sounds when pushing horn pad, check the following.
- Wiring Harness - See WIRING DIAGRAMS
- Security Control Module - SECURITY CONTROL MODULE I/O SIGNALS
- Check headlight operation by turning on light switch. If headlights do not come on, check headlight system. See HEADLIGHT SYSTEM article. If headlights come on, check the following.
- Headlight Alarm Relay - See HEADLIGHT SIGNAL
- Wiring Harness - See WIRING DIAGRAMS
- Security Control Module - SECURITY CONTROL MODULE I/O SIGNALS
- Check driver's door switch. See DOOR SWITCH SIGNAL . Check wiring harness. See WIRING DIAGRAMS . Check security control module. See SECURITY CONTROL MODULE I/O SIGNALS .
- If engine does not start, go to next step. If engine starts, check the following.
- Starter Interrupt Relay - See STARTER INTERRUPT SIGNAL
- Wiring Harness - See WIRING DIAGRAMS
- Security Control Module - SECURITY CONTROL MODULE I/O SIGNALS
- If alarm continues to sound for approximately 150 seconds, go to next step. If alarm does not continue for approximately 150 seconds, replace security control module with known good unit and retest system.
- If alarm system resets itself after approximately 150 seconds, go to next step. If alarm system does not reset itself after approximately 150 second, replace security control module with known good unit and retest system.
- Unlock driver's door using key. Open door and start engine. If engine starts, go to next step. If engine does not start, check the following.
- Starter Interrupt Relay - See STARTER INTERRUPT SIGNAL
- Driver Door Lock Switch - DOOR LOCK/UNLOCK SWITCH SIGNAL
- Wiring Harness - See WIRING DIAGRAMS
- Security Control Module - SECURITY CONTROL MODULE I/O SIGNALS
- Lock driver's door with out using key. Within 30 second open left rear door. If security indicator light flashes with short intervals, go to next step. If security indicator light does not flash with short intervals, check the following.
- Left Rear Door Pin Switch - PIN SWITCHES (COMPONENT TESTS)
- Wiring Harness - See WIRING DIAGRAMS
- Security Control Module - SECURITY CONTROL MODULE I/O SIGNALS
- Close and lock left rear door. If security indicator light illuminates continuously, go to next step. If security indicator light does not illuminate continuously, check the following.
- Security Indictor Light - SECURITY INDICATOR LIGHT CIRCUIT
- Security Control Module - SECURITY CONTROL MODULE I/O SIGNALS
- Unlock driver's door using key. Open driver's door. Lock driver's door with out using key. Within 30 second open right rear door. If security indicator light flashes with short intervals, go to next step. If security indicator light does not flash with short intervals, check the following.
- Right Rear Door Pin Switch - PIN SWITCHES (COMPONENT TESTS)
- Wiring Harness - See WIRING DIAGRAMS
- Security Control Module - SECURITY CONTROL MODULE I/O SIGNALS
- Close and lock right rear door. If security indicator light illuminates continuously, go to next step. If security indicator light does not illuminate continuously, check the following.
- Security Indictor Light - SECURITY INDICATOR LIGHT CIRCUIT
- Security Control Module - SECURITY CONTROL MODULE I/O SIGNALS
- Unlock driver's door using key. Open driver's door. Lock driver's door with out using key. Within 30 second open right front door. If security indicator light flashes with short intervals, go to next step. If security indicator light does not flash with short intervals, check the following.
- Right Front Door Switch - See DOOR SWITCH SIGNAL
- Wiring Harness - See WIRING DIAGRAMS
- Security Control Module - SECURITY CONTROL MODULE I/O SIGNALS
- Close and lock right front door. If security indicator light illuminates continuously, go to next step. If security indicator light does not illuminate continuously, check the following.
- Security Indictor Light - SECURITY INDICATOR LIGHT CIRCUIT
- Security Control Module - SECURITY CONTROL MODULE I/O SIGNALS
- Unlock driver's door using key. Open driver's door. Lock driver's door with out using key. Within 30 second open hood. If security indicator light flashes with short intervals, go to next step. If security indicator light does not flash with short intervals, check the following.
- Hood Switch - See HOOD SWITCH under COMPONENT TESTS
- Wiring Harness - See WIRING DIAGRAMS
- Security Control Module SECURITY CONTROL MODULE I/O SIGNALS
- Close hood. If security indicator light illuminates continuously, go to next step. If security indicator light does not illuminate continuously, check the following.
- Security Indictor Light - SECURITY INDICATOR LIGHT CIRCUIT
- Security Control Module - SECURITY CONTROL MODULE I/O SIGNALS
- If working on a sedan, go to next step. If working on a wagon go to step 23)
- Unlock driver's door using key. Open driver's door. Lock driver's door with out using key. Within 30 second open trunk lid using remote lever in passenger compartment. If security indicator light flashes with short intervals, go to next step. If security indicator light does not flash with short intervals, check the following.
- Trunk Lid Pin Switch - TRUNK LID OR REAR GATE SWITCH SIGNAL
- Wiring Harness - See WIRING DIAGRAMS
- Security Control Module - SECURITY CONTROL MODULE I/O SIGNALS
- Close trunk lid. If security indicator light illuminates continuously, go to next step. If security indicator light does not illuminate continuously, check the following.
- Security Indictor Light - SECURITY INDICATOR LIGHT CIRCUIT
- Security Control Module - SECURITY CONTROL MODULE I/O SIGNALS
- Wait for 30 seconds (until alarm sets itself). Open trunk lid using key. If alarm system goes off, close trunk lid and go to step 27). If alarm system does not go off, check the following.
- Trunk Lock/Unlock System - See DOOR LOCK/UNLOCK SWITCH SIGNAL
- Wiring Harness - See WIRING DIAGRAMS
- Security Control Module - SECURITY CONTROL MODULE I/O SIGNALS
- Unlock driver's door using key. Open driver's door. Lock driver's door with out using key. Within 30 second unlock rear gate using remote switch in passenger compartment. Open rear gate. If security indicator light flashes with short intervals, go to next step. If security indicator light does not flash with short intervals, check the following:
- Rear gate Pin Switch - TRUNK LID OR REAR GATE SWITCH SIGNAL
- Wiring Harness - See WIRING DIAGRAMS
- Security Control Module - SECURITY CONTROL MODULE I/O SIGNALS
- Close rear gate and lock using key. If security indicator light illuminates continuously, go to next step. If security indicator light does not illuminate continuously, check the following.
- Security Indictor Light - SECURITY INDICATOR LIGHT CIRCUIT
- Security Control Module - SECURITY CONTROL MODULE I/O SIGNALS
- Wait for 30 seconds. Unlock rear gate using key. Open rear gate. If alarm system goes off, close rear gate and go to next step. If alarm system does not go off, check the following.
- Rear Gate Lock/Unlock System - DOOR LOCK/UNLOCK SWITCH SIGNAL
- Wiring Harness - See WIRING DIAGRAMS
- Security Control Module - SECURITY CONTROL MODULE I/O SIGNALS
- Lock rear gate using key. If security indicator light illuminates continuously, go to next step. If security light does not illuminate continuously, check the following.
- Rear Gate Lock/Unlock Switch - DOOR LOCK/UNLOCK SWITCH SIGNAL
- Wiring Harness - See WIRING DIAGRAMS
- Security Control Module - See SECURITY CONTROL MODULE I/O SIGNALS
- Wait for 30 seconds. Unlock right front door using key and open door. If alarm does not go off, go to next step. If alarm goes off, check the following.
- Right Front Lock Switch - DOOR LOCK/UNLOCK SWITCH SIGNAL
- Wiring Harness - See WIRING DIAGRAMS
- Security Control Module - SECURITY CONTROL MODULE I/O SIGNALS
- Close right front door and lock with key. If security light illuminates continuously, system is functioning properly. If security light does not illuminate continuously, check the following.
- Right Front Door Lock Switch - DOOR LOCK/UNLOCK SWITCH SIGNAL
- Wiring Harness - See WIRING DIAGRAMS
- Security Control Module - SECURITY CONTROL MODULE I/O SIGNALS
