  1. Ensure there is no Vehicle Speed Sensor (VSS) No. 2 related Diagnostic Trouble Code (DTC) present. If no VSS-related DTC is set, go to next step. If a VSS-related DTC is set, diagnose that DTC first. See appropriate SELF-DIAGNOSTICS article in ENGINE PERFORMANCE.
  2. Turn ignition off. Remove instrument cluster. See INSTRUMENT CLUSTER  under REMOVAL & INSTALLATION. Turn ignition on. Check voltage between ground and instrument cluster harness connector terminal No. 7. See WIRING DIAGRAMS  . If voltage is greater than 10 volts, go to next step. If voltage is not greater than 10 volts, check for open in circuit or poor contact in harness connectors.
  3. Turn ignition off. Check resistance between ground and instrument cluster harness connector terminal No. 8. If resistance is less than 10 ohms, check VSS No. 2. See VEHICLE SPEED SENSOR (VSS)  . If resistance is not less than 10 ohms, repair harness connector.
