Service Information
In 1999, Subaru switched from Code-Alarm to Alpine (Alps) as our Keyless Entry system vendor. From 1999 to 2004, the remote fobs were "square" with oval-shaped buttons. With the re-design of the Legacy in 2005, the fobs changed to the newer "teardrop" design. Recently, the square remotes were superseded to the newer teardrop style and the Techline has received numerous inquiries about the change. The chart below should clear up the confusion about the differences in functionality between the two styles of remote fobs.
