Description & Operation: Notes
Automatic transaxle is electronically controlled by a Transaxle Control Module (TCM). Depending on throttle position, the TCM controls shift points, engine braking, torque converter clutch lock-up and overdrive operation. The TCM receives information from various input devices and uses this information to operate duty and shift solenoid valves. An electronically controlled full-time AWD system is available. This system has a transfer valve body incorporating transfer duty solenoid and multi-plate transfer type clutch on rear of transaxle.
Transaxle is equipped with shift and key interlock systems. See KEY INTERLOCK & SHIFT INTERLOCK SYSTEMS . Shift interlock system prevents selector lever from being moved from Park unless brake pedal is depressed and accelerator is in idle position. In case of a malfunction, selector lever can be released by depressing button on front of shifter console. Key interlock system prevents ignition key from being removed from ignition lock assembly unless selector lever is in Park position.
