Using Scan Tool

NOTE: DTCs can be retrieved by using either a Subaru Select Monitor or OBD-II scan tool. If using Subaru Select Monitor, follow manufacturer's instructions to retrieve DTCs.
  1. Raise and support vehicle. Ensure vehicle is secure and drive wheels are free. Open cover to Data Link Connector (DLC), located at lower left side of instrument panel, and connect scan tool. See Fig 1 .
  2. NOTE: On models not equipped with tachometer, use secondary pickup for engine RPM signal.
  3. Ensure gear selector is in "P" position. Start engine. Move gear selector to "N" position, and depress brake pedal. Bring engine speed up to 2500-3000 RPM, and maintain for 40 seconds.
  4. NOTE: On AWD models, release parking brake. ABS warning indicator may illuminate, due to speed difference between front and rear wheels. No malfunctions are indicated in ABS system. After retrieving DTCs, perform procedure to clear codes from ABS system. See appropriate ANTI-LOCK article in BRAKES.
  5. Place gear selector in "D" position, drive vehicle between 3-6 MPH and maintain for 40 seconds. Retrieve and record DTCs. Perform appropriate test. See DIAGNOSTIC TROUBLE CODE INDEX  table. If no DTCs are retrieved, repair by system. See DIAGNOSIS USING SUBARU SELECT MONITOR  under SYSTEM TESTS.
