DTC P0116: Engine Coolant Temperature (ECT) Sensor Circuit Low Input

  1. Turn ignition off. Connect scan tool. Start engine. Observe coolant temperature displayed value. If value is more than 302°F (150°C) on all except 2.2L and Legacy 2.5L M/T or 248°F (120°C) on 2.2L and Legacy 2.5L M/T, go to next step. If value is not within specifications, check for poor contact in connectors between ECM and ECT sensor connectors.
  2. Turn ignition off. Disconnect ECT sensor connector. Turn ignition on. If value is less than -40°F (-40°C), replace ECT sensor. If value is -40°F (-40°C) or more, repair short circuit in wiring between ECT sensor and ECM connectors. See appropriate wiring diagram in WIRING DIAGRAMS article.
