Code 46

NOTE: Before proceeding, see AIR BAG SAFETY PRECAUTIONS . After repairs are complete, check AIR BAG warning light to verify system is functioning correctly. See SYSTEM OPERATION CHECK .
  1. Disable air bag system. See DISABLING & ACTIVATING AIR BAG SYSTEM . Disconnect connector AB21 from left-side pretensioner. See Figure. Disconnect connectors AB19 and AB20. Connect connector AB19 to test harness "F" (98299FC010), connector 1F. See Figure. Connect air bag resistor (98299PA040) to test harness "F", connector 3F. See Figure. Connect negative battery terminal and turn ignition on (with engine off). If AIR BAG warning light goes off after about 7 seconds and remains off for more than 30 seconds, go to next step. If AIR BAG warning light does not turn off after about 7 seconds or turns back on within 30 seconds, replace left front seat assembly with side air bag module and go to step  4.
  2. Turn ignition off and disconnect negative battery terminal. Wait at least 20 seconds. Disconnect test harness "F" connector 3F and air bag resistor. Disconnect air bag control module connector AB17. Connect connector AB17 to test harness "I2" (98299FC041), connector 1I. See Figure. Connect negative battery cable and turn ignition on (with engine off). Measure voltage between ground and test harness "I2", connector 3I, terminal No. 10. If voltage is more than one volt, go to next step. If voltage is less than one volt, replace air bag control module and go to step  4. See CONTROL MODULE  under REMOVAL & INSTALLATION.
  3. Measure voltage between ground and test harness "I2", connector 3I, terminal No. 12. If voltage is more than one volt, replace right side impact air bag harness and go to next step. If voltage is less than one volt, replace air bag control module and go to next step. See CONTROL MODULE  under REMOVAL & INSTALLATION.
  4. Turn ignition off and disconnect negative battery cable. Wait at least 20 seconds. Reconnect system components and activate air bag system. See DISABLING & ACTIVATING AIR BAG SYSTEM . Clear air bag system codes. See CLEARING CODES  under DIAGNOSTICS. Check for normal air bag system operation. See SYSTEM OPERATION CHECK .
