SERVICE INFORMATION
For the 2001 MY Legacy and Outback vehicles only, Subaru will no longer be disconnecting the A/C unit at the compressor for shipping.
The reason for this is that the large engine cover used on the H6 engine, to be released later this year, does not provide ready access to the A/C Compressor connector. This procedure also applies to the H4 engine to maintain continuity on this model from the start of the '01 MY production.
The new method, as illustrated in Fig 1 and Fig 2 , consists of removing the A/C relay.
The relay is located in the distribution box (main fuse box), under the hood, on the driver side inner fender. During PDI, it will be necessary to move the A/C relay into the proper position to activate the A/C Compressor. The relay, which is marked "A/C", can be removed by pulling straight up. Once the relay is removed, rotate the relay 180 degrees.
After the relay has been rotated, reinsert the relay into the "activation/function" location. The "activation/function" location is the next position to the left (fifth from the firewall), as shown in Fig 1 and Fig 2 .
Please insure that the appropriate people are aware of this change.
