NOTE: Before proceeding, see AIR BAG SAFETY PRECAUTIONS . After repairs are complete, activate air bag system. See DISABLING & ACTIVATING AIR BAG SYSTEM .
  1. Disable air bag system. See DISABLING & ACTIVATING AIR BAG SYSTEM . Remove glove box and disconnect passenger-side air bag module connectors AB9 and AB10. Connect connector AB9 to test harness "F" (98299FC010), connector 1F. See Figure. Connect Air Bag Resistor (98299PA040) to test harness "F", connector 3F. See Figure. Connect negative battery cable. Turn ignition on. If AIR BAG warning light operates properly, replace passenger-side air bag module. See PASSENGER-SIDE AIR BAG MODULE  under REMOVAL & INSTALLATION. In AIR BAG warning light does not operate properly, go to next step.
  2. Turn ignition off and disconnect negative battery cable. Wait at least 20 seconds. Disconnect air bag resistor from test harness "F". Remove lower steering column cover, then disconnect lower clockspring connectors AB3 and AB8. See Figure. Disconnect air bag control module connector AB6. See AIR BAG CONTROL MODULE  under REMOVAL & INSTALLATION. Connect connector AB6 to test harness "I" (98299FC040) or I2 (98299FC041), connector 1I. See Figure or Figure . Measure resistance between test harness "F", connector 3F, terminal No. 3 and test harness "I" or I2, connector 2I, terminal No. 2. Measure resistance between test harness "F", connector 3F, terminal No. 4 and test harness "I" or I2, connector 2I, terminal No. 5. If resistance is less than 10 ohms, go to next step. If resistance is 10 ohms or more, replace air bag system main wiring harness.
  3. Measure resistance between test harness "I" or I2, connector 2I, terminals No. 2 and 5. Measure resistance between ground and test harness "I" or I2, connector 2I, terminal No. 2. Measure resistance between ground and test harness "I" or I2, connector 2I, terminal No. 4. If resistance is more than one megohm, replace air bag control module. See AIR BAG CONTROL MODULE  under REMOVAL & INSTALLATION. If resistance is less than one megohm, replace air bag system main wiring harness.
