NOTE:
Before proceeding, see AIR BAG SAFETY PRECAUTIONS . After repairs are complete, activate air bag system. See DISABLING & ACTIVATING AIR BAG SYSTEM .
- Disable air bag system. See DISABLING & ACTIVATING AIR BAG SYSTEM . Remove driver-side air bag module. See DRIVER-SIDE AIR BAG MODULE under REMOVAL & INSTALLATION. Connect connector AB7 to test harness "F" (98299FC010), connector 1F. See Figure. Connect Air Bag Resistor (98299PA040) to test harness "F", connector 3F. See Figure. Connect negative battery cable. Turn ignition on. If AIR BAG warning light operates properly, replace driver-side air bag module. In AIR BAG warning light does not operate properly, go to next step.
- Turn ignition off and disconnect negative battery cable. Wait at least 20 seconds. Disconnect test harness "F". Remove lower steering column cover, then disconnect lower clockspring connectors AB3 and AB8. See Figure. Connect test harness "F", connector 1F to connector AB8. Connect negative battery cable. Turn ignition on. If AIR BAG warning light operates properly, replace clockspring. See CLOCKSPRING under REMOVAL & INSTALLATION. In AIR BAG warning light does not operate properly, go to next step.
- Turn ignition off and disconnect negative battery cable. Wait at least 20 seconds. Disconnect air bag resistor from test harness "F". Remove glove box and disconnect passenger-side air bag module connectors AB9 and AB10. See Figure. Disconnect air bag control module connector AB6. See AIR BAG CONTROL MODULE under REMOVAL & INSTALLATION. Connect connector AB6 to test harness "I" (98299FC040) or I2 (98299FC041), connector 1I. See Figure or Figure . Connect negative battery cable. Turn ignition on. Measure voltage between ground and test harness "I" or I2, connector 2I, terminal No. 1. Measure voltage between ground and test harness "I" or I2, connector 2I, terminal No. 4. If voltage is less than one volt, replace air bag control module. If voltage is more than one volt, replace air bag system main wiring harness.
