WARNING: This page is about a different car, the 2002 Subaru Impreza. However, it is still accessible from the selected car via links, so may be relevant.
NOTE:
Before proceeding, see AIR BAG SAFETY PRECAUTIONS . After repairs are complete, activate air bag system. See DISABLING & ACTIVATING AIR BAG SYSTEM .
- Disable air bag system. See DISABLING & ACTIVATING AIR BAG SYSTEM . Disconnect air bag control module connector AB6. See AIR BAG CONTROL MODULE under REMOVAL & INSTALLATION. Connect connector AB6 to test harness "I" (98299FC040) or I2 (98299FC041), connector 1I. See Figure or Figure . Measure resistance between test harness "I" or I2, connector 3I, terminals No. 1 and 3. If resistance is 750-1000 ohms, go to next step. If resistance is not 750-1000 ohms, go to step 3.
- Measure resistance between ground and test harness "I" or I2, connector 3I, terminal No. 1. Measure resistance between ground and test harness "I" or I2, connector 3I, terminal No. 3. If resistance is more than one megohm, replace air bag control module. If resistance is less than one megohm, go to next step.
- Disconnect connector AB13 from left front sub sensor. See FRONT SUB SENSOR under REMOVAL & INSTALLATION. Connect connector AB13 to test harness "H" (98299FA030), connector 1H. See Figure. Measure resistance between test harness "I" or I2, connector 3I, terminal No. 1 and test harness "H", connector 3H, terminal No. 5. Measure resistance between test harness "I" or I2, connector 3I, terminal No. 3 and test harness "H", connector 3H, terminal No. 6. If resistance is less than 10 ohms, go to next step. If resistance is more than 10 ohms, go to step 5.
- Measure resistance between ground and test harness "I" or I2, connector 3I, terminal No. 1. Measure resistance between ground and test harness "I" or I2, connector 3I, terminal No. 3. If resistance is more than one megohm, go to step 10. If resistance is less than one megohm, go to next step.
- Disconnect connectors AB11 and AB12 located behind left kick panel. See Figure. Connect connector AB11 to test harness "F" (98299FC010), connector 1F. See Figure. Measure resistance between test harness "I" or I2, connector 3I, terminal No. 1 and test harness "F", connector 3F, terminal No. 4. Measure resistance between test harness "I" or I2, connector 3I, terminal No. 3 and test harness "F", connector 3F, terminal No. 3. If resistance is less than 10 ohms, go to next step. If resistance is more than 10 ohms, replace body harness with air bag main harness.
- Measure resistance between ground and test harness "I" or I2, connector 3I, terminal No. 1. Measure resistance between ground and test harness "I" or I2, connector 3I, terminal No. 3. If resistance is more than one megohm, go to next step. If resistance is less than one megohm, replace body harness with air bag main harness.
- Connect connector AB12 to test harness "F", connector 2F. Measure resistance between test harness "H", connector 3H, terminal No. 5 and test harness "F", connector 3F, terminal No. 5. Measure resistance between test harness "H", connector 3H, terminal No. 6 and test harness "F", connector 3F, terminal No. 6. If resistance is less than 10 ohms, go to next step. If resistance is more than 10 ohms, replace body harness with front sensor harness.
- Measure resistance between test harness "H", connector 3H, terminal No. 5 and test harness "F", connector 3F, terminal No. 5. Measure resistance between test harness "H", connector 3H, terminal No. 6 and test harness "F", connector 3F, terminal No. 6. If resistance is more than one megohm, go to next step. If resistance is less than one megohm, replace body harness with front sensor harness.
- Measure resistance between ground and test harness "F", connector 3F, terminal No. 5. Measure resistance between ground and test harness "F", connector 3F, terminal No. 6. If resistance is more than one megohm, go to next step. If resistance is less than one megohm, replace body harness with front sub sensor harness.
- Connect test harness "H", connector 2H to left front sub sensor. Measure resistance between test harness "H", connector 3H, terminals No. 3 and 4. If resistance is 750-1000 ohms, go to next step. If resistance is not 750-1000 ohms, replace left front sub sensor.
- Measure resistance between ground and test harness "F", connector 3F, terminal No. 3. Measure resistance between ground and test harness "F", connector 3F, terminal No. 4. If resistance is more than one megohm, system is correct at this time. If resistance is less than one megohm, replace right front sub sensor.
