NOTE: Before proceeding, see AIR BAG SAFETY PRECAUTIONS . After repairs are complete, check AIR BAG warning light to verify system is functioning correctly. See SYSTEM OPERATION CHECK .
  1. Disable air bag system. See DISABLING & ACTIVATING AIR BAG SYSTEM . Remove instrument panel lower cover. Disconnect lower clockspring connectors AB3 and AB8. See Figure. Remove glove box and disconnect passenger-side air bag module connectors AB9 and AB10. Disconnect connector AB6 from air bag control module. Connect test harness "F" (98299FC010), connector 1F to connector AB9. See Figure. Connect connector AB6 to test harness "I" (98299FC040) or I2 (98299FC041), connector 1I. See Figure or Figure .
  2. Measure resistance between test harness "I" or I2, connector 2I, terminal No. 2 and test harness "F", connector 3F, terminal No. 3. If resistance is 10 ohms or more, replace air bag system main wiring harness and go to step  7. If resistance is less than 10 ohms, go to next step.
  3. Measure resistance between test harness "I" or I2, connector 2I, terminal No. 5 and test harness "F", connector 3F, terminal No. 4. If resistance is 10 ohms or more, replace air bag system main wiring harness and go to step  7. If resistance is less than 10 ohms, go to next step.
  4. Measure resistance between test harness "I" or I2, connector 2I, terminals No. 2 and 5. If resistance is 10 k/ohms or less, replace air bag system main wiring harness and go to step  7. If resistance is more than 10 k/ohms, go to next step.
  5. Measure resistance between ground and test harness "I" or I2, connector 2I, terminal No. 2. If resistance is one megohm or less, replace air bag system main wiring harness and go to step  7. If resistance is more than one megohm, go to next step.
  6. Measure resistance between ground and test harness "I" or I2, connector 2I, terminal No. 5. If resistance is one megohm or less, replace air bag system main wiring harness and go to next step. If resistance is more than one megohm, replace air bag control module and go to next step. See CONTROL MODULE  under REMOVAL & INSTALLATION.
  7. Reconnect system components and activate air bag system. See DISABLING & ACTIVATING AIR BAG SYSTEM . Clear air bag system codes. See CLEARING CODES  under DIAGNOSTICS. Check for normal air bag system operation. See SYSTEM OPERATION CHECK .
