NOTE:
Before proceeding, see AIR BAG SAFETY PRECAUTIONS . After repairs are complete, check AIR BAG warning light to verify system is functioning correctly. See SYSTEM OPERATION CHECK .
- Disable air bag system. See DISABLING & ACTIVATING AIR BAG SYSTEM . Remove instrument panel lower cover. Disconnect lower clockspring connectors AB3 and AB8. See Figure. Remove glove box and disconnect passenger-side air bag module connectors AB9 and AB10. Connect connector AB6 to test harness "I" (98299FC040) or I2 (98299FC041), connector 1I. See Figure or Figure . Reconnect negative battery cable. Turn ignition switch to ON position (with engine off). Measure voltage between ground and test harness "I" or I2, connector 2I, terminal No. 4. If voltage is less than one volt, go to next step. If voltage is one volt or more, replace air bag system main wiring harness and go to step 3.
- Measure voltage between ground and test harness "I" or I2, connector 2I, terminal No. 1. If voltage is less than one volt, replace air bag control module and go to next step. See CONTROL MODULE under REMOVAL & INSTALLATION. If voltage is one volt or more, replace air bag system main wiring harness and go to next step.
- Turn ignition off and disconnect negative battery cable. Reconnect system components and activate air bag system. See DISABLING & ACTIVATING AIR BAG SYSTEM . Clear air bag system codes. See CLEARING CODES under DIAGNOSTICS. Check for normal air bag system operation. See SYSTEM OPERATION CHECK .
