Section 42 (Engine Controls - Self-Diagnostics - 2.5L): Introduction

WARNING: This page is about a different car, the 2003 Subaru Outback, 2003 Subaru Legacy, 2003 Subaru Impreza, 2003 Subaru Forester, and 2003 Subaru Baja. However, it is still accessible from the selected car via links, so may be relevant.

Most engine control problems result from mechanical failures, poor electrical connections, or damaged vacuum hoses. Before condemning computer system, perform checks and inspections covered in BASIC DIAGNOSTIC PROCEDURES article. Failure to do so may result in lost diagnostic time.

If no faults were found while performing BASIC DIAGNOSTIC PROCEDURES , proceed with self-diagnostics. If no Diagnostic Trouble Code (DTC), or only pass codes are present after entering self-diagnostics, proceed to TROUBLE SHOOTING - NO CODES article for diagnosis by symptom (i.e., ROUGH IDLE, NO START, etc.).
