SUBARU: 2005 MY Legacy and Outback models with Accessory Sub-woofer

INTRODUCTION

If you encounter a customer complaint that the (blue) sub-woofer wiring harness is exposed, use the following procedure to re-route the harness.

REPAIR PROCEDURES

  1. Record the pre-set radio stations.
  2. Position (left front) drivers seat so that the front bolts that secure the seat are accessible.
  3. Remove the 2 front seat bolts.
  4. Slide and tilt the seat forward to gain access to the 2 rear bolts.
  5. Remove the 2 drivers seat bolt covers at rear of slide rail (see Fig 1 ).

  6. Remove the 2 rear bolts.
  7. Disconnect ground cable from battery.
  8. Carefully remove parking brake cover.
    NOTE: Cover is fixed with 5 clips (Fig 2 ). Do not pull on the parking brake boot as it will separate from the cover.

    Insert finger into gap between carpet and parking brake cover; release the two lower clips by pushing them up (see Fig 3 ) and at the same time carefully pull up on the cover. Upper clips will release at the same time. If upper clips do not released at the same time, insert finger from upper side of the cover and release the clips

  9. Tilt driver's seat rearward to gain access to sub-woofer wiring harness connector and disconnect connector (see Fig 4 ).

  10. Re-route blue wiring harness under black wiring harness (and away from parking brake assembly and switch), then behind carpet starting at center console location (see Fig 5 ) and exit through carpet opening at rear passenger heater vent (see Fig 6 ). Make sure to tuck wiring harness and carpet under center console when finished.

Reassembly

  1. Re-connect sub-woofer wiring harness connector.
  2. Re-position seat and hand start bolts.
  3. Torque seat bolts to proper specification; 53 N-m (5.4 kgf-m, 39 ft-lb)
  4. Re-install drivers seat bolt covers at rear of slide rail.
  5. Re-install parking brake cover.
  6. Re-install ground cable to battery.
  7. Re-set radio stations.
  8. Re-set clock.
