Engine Assembly: Removal

- Set the vehicle on a lift.
- Open the front hood fully and support with the front food stay.
- Collect the refrigerant from A/C system. < Ref. to PROCEDURE , Refrigerant Recovery Procedure. >
- Release the fuel pressure.

- Remove the fuel filler cap.
- Disconnect the ground cable from battery.
- Remove the air intake duct, air cleaner case and air intake chamber.

- Remove the under cover.
- Remove the radiator from vehicle. < Ref. to REMOVAL , Radiator. >
- Disconnect the A/C pressure hoses from A/C compressor.
- Remove the air intake chamber stay.
- Disconnect the following connectors and cables.
- Front oxygen (A/F) sensor connector
- U5 model

- Rear oxygen sensor connector
- U5 model

- Engine ground cable
- Engine harness connectors
- Generator connector and terminal
- A/C compressor connectors
- Power steering switch connector
- Front oxygen (A/F) sensor connector
- Disconnect the following hoses.
- Brake booster vacuum hose
- Heater inlet and outlet hoses
- Remove the power steering pump from bracket.
- Loosen the lock bolt and slider bolt, and remove the front side belt. < Ref. to , FRONT SIDE BELT, REMOVAL , V-belt. >
- Remove the power steering pump bracket.
- Place the power steering pump on the right side wheel apron.
- Remove the front and center exhaust pipe. < Ref. to REMOVAL , Front Exhaust Pipe.> < Ref. to REMOVAL , Front Exhaust Pipe. >
- Remove the nuts which hold lower side of transmission to engine.
- Remove the nuts which install front cushion rubber onto front crossmember.
- Separate the torque converter clutch from drive plate. (AT model)
- Lower the vehicle.
- Remove the service hole plug.
- Remove the bolts which hold torque converter clutch to drive plate.
- Remove other bolts while rotating the engine using a socket wrench.
- Remove the pitching stopper.
- Disconnect the fuel hose from fuel pipe.
- Disconnect the connectors of fuel delivery and return lines by pushing the ST to the direction of arrow.
ST 42099AE000 CONNECTOR REMOVER
- Remove the clip, and disconnect the evaporation hoses from pipes.
CAUTION:- Catch fuel from the hose into container.
- Disconnect the hose with its end wrapped with cloth to prevent fuel from splashing.
- Disconnect the connectors of fuel delivery and return lines by pushing the ST to the direction of arrow.
- Support the engine with a lifting device and wire ropes.
- Support the transmission with a garage jack.CAUTION: Doing this is very important because the transmission lowers for its own weight. This work is also of great importance for facilitating reinstallation.CAUTION: Before removing the engine away from transmission, check to be sure no work has been overlooked.
- Separation of engine and transmission.
- Remove the starter. < Ref. to REMOVAL , Starter. >
- Remove the bolts which hold upper side of transmission to engine.
- Set the ST to converter case. (AT model)
ST 498277200 STOPPER SET
- Remove the engine from vehicle.
- Slightly raise the engine.
- Raise the transmission with garage jack.
- Move the engine horizontally until main shaft is withdrawn from clutch cover.
- Slowly move the engine away from engine compartment.
NOTE: Be careful not to damage adjacent parts or body panels with crank pulley, oil level gauge, etc. - Remove the front cushion rubbers.
